Windows

Set NyxonProxies as the system proxy on Windows 11 and 10: manual proxy setup, exceptions, how browsers ask for the login, and apps that ignore the setting.

Windows has one system proxy setting, used by Edge, Chrome and many other apps. It has fields for the server and port, but none for a username and password: each app asks for those itself, or cannot use the proxy at all.

The examples use the Residential gateway, geo.gw.nyxon.sh with port 8080. Other products have their own host and port, listed in Endpoints and ports.

Set the proxy

  1. Open Settings and go to Network & internet, then Proxy.
  2. Under Manual proxy setup, next to Use a proxy server, click Set up.
  3. In Edit proxy server, turn on Use a proxy server.
  4. Enter geo.gw.nyxon.sh in Proxy IP address and 8080 in Port.
  5. Keep Don't use the proxy server for local (intranet) addresses ticked.
  6. Click Save.

The username and password

Open a website in Edge or Chrome. The browser asks for the proxy's username and password. Enter them, with any targeting in the username, such as USERNAME-country-us.

Not every app follows the system proxy, and not every app that follows it can answer the login request. Those apps connect directly, from your own IP, or fail to connect. Proxifier routes any app through the proxy and signs in for it.

Exceptions

Hosts that should skip the proxy go in the exceptions box, separated by semicolons, for example *.example.com;192.168.*.

Command-line tools

curl, git, npm and most other command-line tools read environment variables instead of this setting. See Environment variables.

Turn it off

Open Edit proxy server again, turn off Use a proxy server and click Save.

Check the IP

Open https://ipinfo.io/json in your browser. It should show a NyxonProxies IP, not your own.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to check
The browser keeps asking for the passwordThe username and password, and that they belong to the product of the host.
Pages time outWhether a firewall blocks the port. Run Test-NetConnection geo.gw.nyxon.sh -Port 8080 in PowerShell.
An app still shows your own IPIt ignores the system proxy. Use Proxifier for it.
