Postman

Send Postman requests through NyxonProxies: custom proxy settings in the desktop app, proxy authentication, SOCKS5, bypass hosts and how to check the exit IP.

The Postman desktop app can send every request through a custom proxy, with a username and password. This is useful to test an API from another country, or to see how a site answers a residential IP.

Set up the proxy

  1. Open the Postman desktop app.
  2. Click Settings in the header, then Settings.
  3. Open the Proxy tab.
  4. Under Proxy configurations for sending requests, turn on Use custom proxy configuration.
  5. Under Use proxy for, keep both HTTP and HTTPS selected.
  6. Under Proxy server, choose HTTP, then enter geo.gw.nyxon.sh and the port 8080. Leave out http:// in front of the host.
  7. Turn on Proxy auth and enter your proxy Username and Password.

Use the host and port of your product, see Endpoints and ports. To target a country or hold a session, add the parameters to the username, for example USERNAME-country-de. See Username parameters.

Check the IP

Send a GET request to https://api.ipify.org?format=json. The response shows the IP the site sees, which should be a NyxonProxies address and not your own.

SOCKS5

Postman also supports SOCKS proxies, including SOCKS5 and SOCKS5H. Choose the SOCKS protocol in the Proxy server list and use port 1080 on geo.gw.nyxon.sh. Through a SOCKS proxy, Postman sends HTTP and HTTPS requests only.

Skip the proxy for some hosts

Enter hosts that should go direct, such as a local API, in Proxy bypass as a comma-separated list, for example localhost,127.0.0.1.

Good to know

  • The custom proxy is a setting of the desktop app.
  • If both Use system proxy and the custom proxy are turned on, Postman uses the custom proxy.
  • If Postman reports a 407, the gateway refused the username or password. Check the credentials and the host for your product. See Error codes.
