macOS

Set NyxonProxies as the proxy on macOS: Network settings, web and secure web proxy with a password, the bypass list, and the networksetup commands for scripts.

macOS keeps proxy settings for each network service, such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Safari, Chrome and most other apps follow them, and macOS stores the proxy username and password for them.

The examples use the Residential gateway, geo.gw.nyxon.sh with port 8080. Other products have their own host and port, listed in Endpoints and ports.

Set the proxy

  1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
  2. Click Network in the sidebar, then the service you use, such as Wi-Fi.
  3. Click Details, then Proxies.
  4. Turn on Web proxy (HTTP). Enter geo.gw.nyxon.sh as the server and 8080 as the port.
  5. Turn on Proxy server requires password and enter your proxy username and password.
  6. Turn on Secure web proxy (HTTPS) and enter the same server, port, username and password.
  7. Click OK.

Both entries point to port 8080. HTTPS sites still travel encrypted: the browser opens a tunnel through the gateway and runs TLS inside it.

Bypass list

Bypass proxy settings for these hosts & domains takes a comma-separated list of hosts that skip the proxy. Turn on Exclude simple hostnames to send names without a dot, such as a printer on your network, directly.

SOCKS proxy

macOS also has a SOCKS proxy entry. Chrome cannot send a password to a SOCKS5 proxy, so use the web proxy entries above for browsing.

Use the terminal

networksetup sets the same values from a script. Changing network settings needs an administrator account. List the services first, then set both proxies:

bash
networksetup -listallnetworkservices
networksetup -setwebproxy "Wi-Fi" geo.gw.nyxon.sh 8080 on USERNAME PASSWORD
networksetup -setsecurewebproxy "Wi-Fi" geo.gw.nyxon.sh 8080 on USERNAME PASSWORD

Turn them off again:

bash
networksetup -setwebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off
networksetup -setsecurewebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off

Command-line tools such as curl and git ignore these settings and read environment variables instead. See Environment variables.

Check the IP

Open https://ipinfo.io/json in Safari. It should show a NyxonProxies IP, not your own.
